BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – A brother’s siblings have stood by his side no matter what, even going so far as to gaslight their mother, who suspects that her son’s red eyes and distinct herbal scent may be due to smoking weed.
“Look, why would he do weed? How would he even get it?” said 17-year-old Jayda Couture after their mom commented on his bloodshot eyes and the potent aroma clinging to his clothes. “It’s not weed. It’s allergies. You’re smelling phantom scents. This might be a sign of a stroke. Seriously, Mom, you should probably get that checked out.”
Their mother, India Couture, said the suspicious smell has been radiating from her son’s room for months. “His siblings are lying and covering for him. His eyes have been red since fall, and the Claritin I bought does nothing. How is that an allergy?”
Despite their claims, India noted the symptoms only seem to flare up when her son returns from hanging out with his friends.
Sensing their mother was dangerously close to realizing she was being manipulated, the eldest sister, 22-year-old Jelisa Couture, jumped in. “Mom, you always jump to conclusions. Remember when you thought that Red Bull in the car was beer? Do you even have proof?”
India then went out to search the car and found a leftover blunt and loose weed crumbs, which she promptly screenshotted and sent to the family group chat while waiting for her son Odell to return home.
At press time, when questioned, Odell stood eating a bag of chips in silence, staring into space, before finally muttering, “It’s my friend’s,” after his mother snapped her fingers in front of his face and screamed hello three times.
