WASHINGTON DC – In a nod to the on-the-go music generation, Homeland Security Secretary Kirsti Noem has released a playlist to accompany the project to paint the border wall.
Noem announced that, in deference to an idea floated by President Trump, workers would paint the metal wall black, to make it hotter and thereby deter illegal immigration. She made the announcement at a New Mexico news conference, as the Rolling Stones hit “Paint It Black” blared over loudspeakers. After taking questions, Noem picked up a roller herself, dipped it in a vat of black paint, and joined in, as the playlist switched to the AC/DC smash “Back In Black.”
It was full speed ahead with building the wall, as Homeland Security got set to spend some of the $46 billion earmarked for the work by Congress earlier this year. Noem was proud of the fact that she had provided entertainment for those doing the tedious task of painting the miles and miles of metal. “I’ve been through the school of hard knocks,” she said. “I know what it is to work hard. I just wanted to make this job a little easier by providing a soundtrack.”
Among the other songs on the playlist are “Black” by Pearl Jam, Metallica’s “Fade to Black,” the UFO hit “Too Hot to Handle,” Peggy Lee’s “Black Coffee,” and the Alannah Myles standby “Black Velvet,” one that Noem said that she had specifically requested.
Noem said that the playlist would be available soon online.
