HOLLYWOOD, California – The cat is out of the bag, again. In the age of Internet spoilers, we now know the plot of yet another M. Night Shyamalan film. This time, the twist is that there isn’t one.

The auteur, known for sometimes wrenching plot twists in movies like The Sixth Sense and The Lady in the Water, released his latest project, The Business, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a detective solving a murder case on the docks of San Diego. According to one famed reviewer, “The plot is entirely predictable, the ending I guessed in the first five minutes, and all I got to show for my 2 hours and 6 minutes in the cinema was a review that it took me just 22 minutes to write.”

In the film, Johnson’s character, Jonathan Wayne, follows a series of clues that lead him to the identity of the killer of a woman whose body was dumped in the harbor. Wayne confers with a colleague, Jennifer Lopez’s Christina Alvarez, multiple times during the film, and the pair slowly build a case against the character eventually revealed to be the killer. Wayne confidently states after only the second such clue that he knows who did it, and subsequent events prove him right. In fact, he describes to his colleague the murder scene in so much detail that fans of Shyamalan must have been thinking that Wayne himself committed the crime. But the filmmaker actually shows the murdered committing the crime, as Wayne’s monologue drones in the background, removing all suspense.

One fan interviewed outside a cinema after seeing the film said, “Hey, what do you want? Maybe it’s Night playing tricks on us again. It could be that the joke’s on us, all suspecting a giant plot twist that wasn’t really there. Or hey, maybe I need to see the film again. Maybe I missed something.”
