WASHINGTON – The man arrested for throwing a sandwich at a federal officer wants his food back. “It’s my favorite, and it’s a far sight better than what they’re feeding me in here.”
Sean Dunn had confronted a group of law enforcement officers in Washington and had shouted at them for a time. His final act of protest was to hurl something at an officer and then run off. What Dunn had in his hand was a Subway sandwich, specifically an Italian B.M.T. “I just love the meats on that one,” Dunn said from his jail cell. “And I always get it with the spicy mustard. Man, that is delish.”
Dunn said he saw the officer carefully place the sandwich in a plastic bag, “so I know they haven’t eaten it yet. Hell, I don’t even care if it’s cold or soaking through the paper or whatever. I demand to see my sandwich!”
The response of law enforcement was to arrest Dunn and charge him with a felony, that of assaulting a federal officer. Reaction from Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, was swift. Into jail Dunn went. “Look, he blurted out for all to hear that he did it, he assaulted an officer,” Pirro said. “That’s enough for me. I don’t care if he threw a wad of tissue paper. I will not have the officers of the law being treated this way.”
Rumors of a GoFundMe drive to get Dunn more of his favorite food could not be substantiated.
Subway officials had no comment.
