PANESKE, Nigeria – Bono, the lead singer of the popular band U2, traveled to Nigeria to provide support for children in need. He is famous for helping to promote various events that raise awareness about the conditions of people in many African communities, including malnutrition and poverty. For this event, he was distributing copies of the band’s new CD entitled “A Land With No Future”. The CDs are a batch of unsold CDs elsewhere in Africa that have been redirected for this event.
When asked by a local UNICEF volunteer why not provide financial relief or food, Bono was quick to answer: “Music heals”. With a net worth of US$700 billion, Bono is renowned for encouraging other millionaires and countries to donate substantial sums of money to Africa. However, there is no evidence he has done so as well. The UNICEF worker drove to the City Center to buy at his own expense a CD player and speakers so that the children could listen to U2 the 1 hour per day the generator runs.
