HOLLYWOOD, California – A number of A-list actors recently have admitted watching and rewatching their own films, in a growing trend. The latest was Winona Ryder, who says her favorite film was Heathers, which set her on the road to stardom. “Sometimes I watch it and imagine I’m a Heather,” Ryder said recently. “Most of the time, I’m just little ol’ me.”
Ryder joined a growing number of actors who have publicly spoken about their affinity for watching their own performances on film (in contrast to what most actors say, which is that they don’t do such a thing). One of the more prominent names in this watch-rewatch camp is Will Smith. The Oscar-winner has quite the list of high-earning films to choose from and said that recently, he’s been rewatching I Am Legend once a week, to get ready for the coming apocalypse.
Another Oscar-winner, Nicolas Cage, said that his performance of the moment was Face/Off, although he said that recently he’s been watching only the parts with John Travolta’s face. And Ryan Reynolds invited a large group of friends and literati over to his house recently to road-test his new home theater in a showing of Green Lantern. (Not one of those in attendance had the heart to tell him that it was Ryan Gosling starring in the film.)
Perhaps most bizarre is yet another Oscar-winner, Leonardo DiCaprio, who has admitted to having watched Titanic 723 times but “the last 700 times I’ve fast forwarded to see whether that guy who looks like me makes it onto the lifeboat.”
