LONDON, UK – The UK has announced that the Royal Navy Submarine Service will be adding 12 new nuclear submarines to its fleet. The announcement comes as Keir Starmer sees a greater threat facing the UK, and the UK’s commitment to increase its defense budget as required by NATO. The new submarines will start to replace the current fleet in the late 2030s.
The most significant challenge to putting the new submarine fleet into service is not technological, but financial. The UK has been challenged by numerous high expenditures, including rising benefits for the retired, increased housing costs, low-cost immigration labor, and financing various Bake Off shows throughout the kingdom.
To help offset the cost of building the submarines, the UK government sought to partner with the business community for financing opportunities. After a long search, it secured a significant investment from Guinness Beer, a UK staple beer manufacturer. Guinness beer’s only requirement was that the submarine should be painted with a Guinness Beer theme and that the mess hall should have a 12-tap for Guinness only beer. The currently active sailors in the Royal Navy have already praised this new feature in the submarines, and they look forward to the pub environment that the mess hall could provide.
