LAS VEGAS, NV – The US Federal Court knocked down Trump’s reciprocal tariffs to the delight of many. The stock market jumped 500 points with the ruling announcement and with some positive news from Nvidia earnings. The ruling will keep imported products, especially those from China, affordable to the American consumer. The sex toy industry was one of many industries that were going to be significantly affected by the tariffs, making the incredibly sought-after toys double in price.
China has over 1,000 manufacturers of the beloved products and accounts for 70% of the world’s production of sex toys. With the increased price of such products making them unaffordable, many in the mental health industry feared that the incidence of depression and anxiety would skyrocket. Not only would access to the toys for a quick fix be restricted, but also the number of anxiety cases was expected to increase with the idea of their patients having to interact with others again for an orgasm.
In Las Vegas many users of these devices went to the streets to celebrate the court order and relief in knowing that their toys will be affordable again. We talked to the store owner of a local sex toy shop, Dick Sweet: “ We were almost out of stock, people were buying everything we had ahead of the tariffs. They were even asking for the demo and recalled products. The craze was real”. On the streets in Las Vegas we talked to a young lady whose name is not being published due to privacy concerns: “ I cannot live without my toys! I go thru a set of batteries every week!”
The supply of these products and many other products from China is expected to normalize over the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, medical professionals recommend using the products safely and not using defective or replacement products.
