LOS ANGELES, CA – A scandal has rocked the vegan community after Aliyah Bennett, a long-time animal rights advocate and PETA employee, was caught devouring chicken wings at a family barbecue, completely lost in her own world. The photo, uploaded by her mother on Facebook, showed Aliyah happily chomping on a plate of wings, sending shockwaves through her social circle.
The photo was discovered by a friend who noticed Aliyah in the background, sparking outrage among those who knew her as a staunch vegan. “It’s just not right,” said a friend of 10 years who had been on the receiving end of Aliyah’s conversion attempts. Aliyah quickly denied the accusations, posting on Facebook, “I think that’s my sister Kenzie in the background. People often mistake me for her because we look alike.”
However, her sister, who had recently argued with Aliyah, posted a message revealing the truth. “Aliyah has been eating meat with our family since she was a kid. She only pretends to be vegan in public.”.
Aliyah’s social media accounts have since been deactivated, and she has faced intense backlash, even losing her job at PETA. In an effort to apologize, she launched a GoFundMe campaign titled “Aliyah’s Path to Accountability, Reformation, and Second Chance.” The page reads, “Aliyah deeply regrets a mistake she made that has had serious consequences on her life. In a moment of hunger, she enjoyed some chicken wings and now realizes she was hurtful and wrong. Since then, she has lost her job and faced intense criticism and humiliation.”
At press time, Aliyah had raised $5, while PETA had received over $40k in donations.
