WASHINGTON DC – Mrs. Roberta Metsola, the current president of the European Parliament, announced during a UN speech today that the European Parliament is expanding. The current seating of 720 parliamentarians in the organization is not enough capacity to host the increasing need for new EU functions, rules, policies, and laws. The new facility will be able to hold 3000 politicians and offer network and web calling capabilities to expand the parliament virtually if needed.

According to Mrs. Metsola, the parliament will have three floors in order to facilitate discussion of new laws and increase the system’s efficiency. The EU approved a lower, middle, and upper parliament so discussions and planning can happen horizontally and vertically. The new configuration will allow not only countries and States to have EU representation, but also many cities will be invited to join the deliberations. A Ukrainian firm has designed the new facility, and the plans are currently undergoing expedited approval in Brussels, which is expected to take approximately 7 years.
